  This is a solidly-played complete set of Dmitri Shostakovich’s 15 quartets from the Brodsky Quartet, a UK ensemble that recorded for Teldec over a number of years. The Shostakovich quartets I have been pleased to discover have elicited a number of outstanding releases, a field which I’d describe as exceptionally strong/5(7).

  Shostakovich's 15 Quartet cycle is the greatest from among 20th century chamber music and the Emerson's do it more than full justice. Better recording quality by far than the Borodins and a more emotional, even "romantic" depiction of some of the most harrowing music composed during this or any other century. I would not to be without either/5(59).
